Q: what is the word for conversion from saltwater to chlorine

Asked by: Richard G Steinke - 4/15/2021
A: Richard, converting your pool to saltwater is pretty easy. Basically, you would just add the equipment we carry, a saltwater chlorinator, to your existing pool and equipment. The salt chlorinator goes in the plumbing after the pump and filter. This often can be done in about an hour, and many people do this themselves. Once it is installed, you add salt to your pool (the manual describes how much based on your pool size). Salt comes in 40 lb bags, which you get from the hardware store pretty cheaply. The salt will dissolve in a day or so, then you are all set! The saltwater chlorinator sanitizes the pool whenever the pump runs, so you get beautiful, clean water without having to add anymore chlorine, shock, or algaecide.

Q: What is the power requirement for the system? I have a 220 volt feed for the pump. I plan to install it myself.

Asked by: BRIONNI BERLANGA - 5/30/2021
A: This system can work on either 220v or 110v. It is designed to be on the same circuit as the pump so they can go on and off together.

Q: I have a new intex 18x54 pool I’m installing. I bought the one that has the upgraded frame to resist corrosion. I’m only trying to get a couple years out of it to decide if we want to keep and maintain a real pool. Want a salt system but can’t find the intex brand. Can you advise if the CircuPool Universal25 Salt Chlorine Generator will be a good fit for this type of pool.

Asked by: Peter - 3/21/2021
A: That calculates to be about 8600 gallons, which means the Universal25 should have plenty of capacity for that size pool. You can adjust its output to meet your pool's needs, and you can see some more info about sizing here: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/What-Size-Salt-Pool-System-Is-Right-For-Me

Q: Is this compatible with a 21,000 gallon above ground pools?

Asked by: Zac sellers - 5/6/2021
A: Depending on your climate and pool usage, it could potentially provide enough chlorine output. You would want to be sure, however, since you are closer to its max capacity. Q: I am considering using this system t replace a Hayward Aqua Trol. they Hayward has a timer that turns my pump on and off automatically. Does this system have that capability?

Asked by: Steve D - 5/18/2021
A: No, there are not currently any other models that have a built-in analog timer like that. However, "Intermatic" style timers are commonly available locally, and that would be the same amount of work to use when doing the installation.

Q: Why does my salt generator say hot in winter and generating lift blinking

Asked by: Gregg - 1/9/2022
A: If a heater is in operation, the water coming out of it is normally much hotter than the actual water temperature of the pool. If there is no heater in operation, there may be an issue with the system's temperature sensor. If so, it's usually pretty easy to fix if you give tech support a call.

Q: When converting to a salt generator, do I need to buy bags of salt to start it out?

Asked by: Chris Mathis - 3/5/2022
A: Salt chlorine generators typically require that you add 30lbs of salt for every 1000 gallons of water. You get that locally, usually from the hardware store.

Q: I want to replace my Pentair ichlor 30 salt system. Will this Circupool Universal be an easy replacement without any modifications needed by a professional?

Asked by: Georgia - 3/6/2022
A: If you have an iChlor30 that was installed as the pool's first salt system, then you'll just need to cut it out and glue the new salt system in its place. If your iChlor30 replaced an older IntelliChlor model, it may be installed with an adapter kit and you could replace it with a new model that is marked as compatible with Pentair plumbing.

Q: Do they make a chlorine generator with 3 inch inlet and out let?

Asked by: jim Murray - 3/16/2022
A: We do not know of any chlorine generators that have a 3'' inlet and outlet. If you have 3'' plumbing you can use reducers that would be available at a local hardware store to reduce it down to 2'' to install the cell.

Q: How long should the high salt light stay on

Asked by: KEVIN A Zappia - 6/21/2022
A: If the salinity in the pool is high, that means too much salt has been added and the high salt light will get triggered indefinitely. You'll need to take a sample to confirm the pool's salinity, and depending on how high the salt level is take out the appropriate amount of pool water. After that, turn the salt system back on.

Q: I use this unit on the lowest setting for my salt water(NaCL)hot tub and it works great! I’m considering switching to bromine due to my wife’s skin sensitivity. Will it generate bromine if I flush the system and add the sodium bromide? If so, where would I buy It(NaBr)? Thanks

Asked by: Jim - 7/3/2022
A: That wouldn't be something that is normally done. Salt chlorinators are only labelled to be used with sodium chloride. Attempting to use something else would definitely be "off-label" use, if it works at all.

Q: will it replace a Pentair salt generator ?

Asked by: Robert - 9/19/2022
A:

Not the UL25 model, as a Pentair Intellichlor has slightly different fittings. You could look at this related system and its compatible adapter kit:

Q: Does this work with any automation systems, such as Pentair IntelliConnect?

Asked by: Mark - 10/10/2022
A: It is easy to set this up however you are current controlling your pump. You can connect this to the power relay that controls your pump so they turn on/togther, or if you use a variable speed pump you would just provide constant power and the salt system's flow switch will activate it whenever it detects water flow.

Q: Can i buy just the generator. I have a cell the is only 30 days old so it is good but my base unit has failed.

Asked by: Carlton Burgess - 11/3/2022
A: The controller is not sold separately, but if there is an issue with it there typically is not a reason to just replace the whole thing - instead you can usually just get the part that you need on the controller.
