The IC60 salt cell is the factory original replacement cell for the Pentair Intellichlor, allowing you to replace your old salt cell in minutes by easily dropping the new IC60 cell directly in place. This cell is made to meet or exceed original factory specs and has 100% guaranteed compatibility.
Replacing the IC60 cell will allow your salt chlorine generator to begin chlorinating again if your old IC60 salt cell has been depleted. The IC60 cell sanitizes your swimming pool in an eco-friendly and cost-efficient way, and also helps provide a luxurious swimming experience without the eye irritation and dry skin. Monitoring chlorine production is easy with the IntelliChlor generator. It’s the only one with all controls and displays built into the cell. Just select from one of five sanitizing levels to easily manage chlorine addition.
Sizing:
When replacing your Intellichlor salt cell, take this opportunity to make sure it is sized correctly for your pool. Sizing your salt cell properly is key to making sure you will not need to supplement with additional chlorine or shock your pool, and also extends the lifespan of your cell. The industry recommends using a salt cell with a max capacity of 1.5-2 times the actual size of your pool (more is better). The IC60 is manufacturer rated for a maximum capacity of 60,000 gallons.
Compatibility:
This replacement salt cell for the IC60 is 100% compatible with all Intellichlor Power Centers (no software/firmware issues). The IC60 cell has the same length, threading, and cable connection for direct replacement.
To get the most life out of your salt cell and to keep your pool running without unexpected interruptions, make sure it is sized correctly, maintain correct water balance, and be sure and inspect your cell at least every 3 months for leaks, debris, and calcium scale. Be sure to follow instructions in the product manual and clean the cell as often as the system indicates.
General FAQ
If your salt cell needs to be replaced, you probably have a problem with low chlorine, but if your chlorine level is a problem then the cell is only one of several possible issues, notably including excessive chlorine demand. Essentially, you have either a system problem or a water problem.
System problems will generally reveal themselves with error messages or warning lights on the control module. The typical indications of the cell needing replacement will be one or both of the following: Low Salt warnings that are present with correct salinity and Check/Clean Cell warnings that display when the cell is verifiably clean.
If you are referring to buying the same brand, there’s no question that the original OEM salt cell is exactly what your system was designed to use. However, commonly there are aftermarket replacement cells available which fit into place and operate quite satisfactorily. It is your prerogative to employ one of these aftermarket replacements if you are satisfied with the specifications, price warranty, and reported compatibility.
If you were asking about buying the same capacity cell, then OEM or aftermarket alike, you need to first determine whether your control or power module can accommodate a different size. Assuming you can change sizes, a larger cell is virtually always a good choice. However, in downsizing, make sure the smaller cell is still sufficiently large to maintain 1.5-2 times sizing of the cell relative to the pool’s volume.

Questions From Customers
Q:
I am thinking of replacing my Pentair IC40 SG with a Pentair IC60 SG. My pool is about 33,000 gal, and the IC40 has stopped making chlorine. Are the two parts interchangeable? Can I just plug the IC60 into the existing power supply for the IC40? And is the length of the IC60 the same as the length of the IC40? I do not want to change the piping unless absolutely necessary, as I want to do the installation myself.

I just bought the IC60 a year and a half ago and there seems to be a problem that it is not working. I was told that it is only good for 5 years. Is that true? And now this seems to be not working. How would I test it to see?

I have a Pentair IC60 connected to an EasyTouch 8. When in spa mode, it drops the chlorine output so that people in the spa don't get bleached. How would I address this issue with your generic P60 cell?

The Pentair IntelliChlor controls are built-in to the electrolytic cell. It has LED indicator lights that display low or high measured salt levels, five sanitizer output power levels, and whether the cell requires checking or service. The controls also have a built-in mechanical flow switch that ensure sufficient water flow for chlorine generation. Under low water temperature conditions, the IntelliChlor control's automatic shut-off feature protects the unit and prolongs cell life.
The Pentair IntelliChlor electrolytic cell is an inline opaque-plastic housing which contains built-in titanium electrode plates, built-in electronic controls, built-in flow switch, and built-in power supply cord. The IntelliChlor salt cell has threaded connections on the inlet and outlet, which allows quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). The threaded connections attach to 2" unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
