Why not only use an Ozone Generator?
While the main function is the system is to sanitize your pool, the process is a bit different compared to standard chlorine or even a salt generator setup. Since ozone generators don’t use chlorine at all, they have pros and cons if used as the sole pool sanitization system.
No Residual Protection
As the name suggests, ozone generators rely on ozone to oxidize and sanitize the pool instead of chlorine.Since ozone is so powerful, it also rapidly dissipates and doesn’t leave behind the “shield” you need to have to keep the water clean when the system is not in use.
Pump Based
The benefits of ozone are only occurring when the pump is running. Rather than pump ozone into the whole pool, ozone is only generated for sanitizing in the pipes around the generator. To only use ozone to clean the pool would require constantly running your pump (not recommended).
A Partial Solution
Used on their own, the bottom line is you still have to buy and manually add chlorine if you only used an ozone generator...
Do you HAVE TO use an ozone generator with a salt pool?
No! Salt chlorine generators are a complete pool sanitation solution. You can think of an ozone generator as a specialized, highly targeted cleaning system. While it doesn’t offer the constant sanitation of a salt based system when used on its own, an ozone generator provides amazing results when used in tandem with a salt system!
