No Residual Protection

As the name suggests, ozone generators rely on ozone to oxidize and sanitize the pool instead of chlorine.Since ozone is so powerful, it also rapidly dissipates and doesn’t leave behind the “shield” you need to have to keep the water clean when the system is not in use.

Pump Based

The benefits of ozone are only occurring when the pump is running. Rather than pump ozone into the whole pool, ozone is only generated for sanitizing in the pipes around the generator. To only use ozone to clean the pool would require constantly running your pump (not recommended).

A Partial Solution

Used on their own, the bottom line is you still have to buy and manually add chlorine if you only used an ozone generator...
