A common sight on newly-built backyard swimming pools, the Hayward Aqua Rite T-Cell-9 electronic chlorine generator is a convenient alternative to traditional chlorination. The Aqua Rite is an NSF certified salt chlorinator that works with existing pump and filtration systems to reliably supply the swimming pool with pure chlorine, every day. The Hayward T Cell 9 uses a low salt level and makes the pool water silky soft to provide the ultimate swimming experience.

The complete Hayward Aqua Rite salt system has three main components: the Control Box, the TurboCell (electrolytic salt cell), and the Flow Switch, along with its miscellaneous hardware and documentation. Hayward offers three different sizes of Aqua Rites for "right-size" chlorination: T-Cell-3 (15,000 gallons), T-Cell-9 (25,000 gallons), and T-Cell-15 (40,000 gallons).

The Hayward Turbo Cell T 9 is manufactured by one of the largest providers of swimming pool equipment and is also known under the popular names Swim Pure Plus, Mineral Springs, Goldline Aquarite, NatureSoft, SplashCLEAR, AquaPlus, Blue Essence, and more. As a pool builder-grade system, it has become one of the most widely-known salt systems available since it is the default choice for many pool stores as well as pool construction and service companies.

From Hayward:

"Hayward's AquaRite® Salt system is the convenient alternative to conventional chlorine - bringing your pool the very best in soft, silky water with no more red eyes, itchy skin, or harsh odors. Replacing too many boards to recommend again
When its working its fine, but the circuit board went out after a year and even though hayward covered it it still cost me a 100 for the service call. A year later now it was great the whole summer and now the board has gone out again I'm not dealing with the warranty system again.

Bad cheap part
My experience with these Aquarite system is that they break often and cost and arm and leg to repair. The electronic board (PCB) has a thermistor that burnout very frequently and although this part cost less than 10$ most technician will replace the board for more than $300 rather than just the thermistor. Also my control display panel needed to be replace all of this in less than 3 years

working great but why no power cord
working great now that it is installed. my only question is doesn't it come with a power cord? at first i thought i got a refurbished unit but then they explained to me the manufacturer does not include a power cord, that added a couple hours and some confusion at the hardware store to get this installed. like i said though, working great now

Solid chlorine alternative
Easy to install if you're replacing an old unit. If it's a new install, you may need an installer and definitely an electrician to connect it.

Hard set up
I had to hire guy to install it, and I was out there with him and ended up even needing to help him. We had to knock a hole in the side of the metal control box and run a power wire to it, which seems dumb to have to do at all, because of course it needs a power wire. The display screen was a little bit of a let down and also hard to use. The salt level isn't the same as what the pool store reads, but it seems to be working ok at this point.

Q: 1. Is there a minimum flow value for the T-9 - gpm, cfs? 2. What is the acceptable pressure range for the T-9

Asked by: Norman B Barnette Jr - 8/18/2020
A: I'm not sure. The Aquarite manual has a graph that shows the head loss for flow rates of 40 gpm - 160 gpm. A salt system is installed after your filter, it will not experience the same PSI pressures as a filter does since water flowing back to the pool is not really restricted.

The Hayward Aqua Rite T-Cell-9 controls are a steel sheet-metal box with a hinged and latching door (similar to your circuit-breaker panel). It mounts on the wall (or nearby a post or support) by hanging the control box by a few keyholes on basic screws that have been secured in the wall. Inside of the Control Center door, there is a small LCD display screen (similar to a digital watch), which displays the average salinity reading, temperature, cell volts, cell current, chosen percentage chlorine output, instantaneous salinity, and different cell type settings. The controls have a dial that is used to raise and lower chlorine output, and a three-position switch to activate the system, deactivate the system, or activate the super chlorination mode.

Note: Hayward does not include a power cord or other needed connectors, grommets, or accessories with which to the control box is to be wired to your power supply.

The Hayward Aqua Rite TurboCell is an inline opaque-plastic housing which contains built-in titanium electrode plates and built-in power supply cord. The AquaRite salt cell has threaded connections on the inlet and outlet, which allow quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). The threaded connections attach to 2" unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
The Hayward Aqua Rite T-Cell-9 includes with it two 2" Threaded Unions, Flow Switch, and Instruction Manual.

Note: The manufacturer does not include a power cord with the Hayward Aqua Rite. The wiring harness will need to be purchased from a local hardware supply.
