A common sight on newly-built backyard swimming pools, the Hayward Aqua Rite electronic chlorine generator is a convenient alternative to traditional chlorination. The Aqua Rite is a NSF certified salt chlorinator which works with existing pump and filtration systems to reliably supply the swimming pool with pure chlorine, every day. Hayward salt generator uses a low salt level and makes the pool water silky soft to provide the ultimate swimming experience.

The complete Hayward Aqua Rite salt system has three main components: the Control Box, the TurboCell (electrolytic salt cell), and the Flow Switch, along with its miscellaneous hardware and documentation.  Hayward offers three different size Aqua Rites for "right-size" chlorination, T-Cell-3 (15,000 gallons), T-Cell-9 (25,000 gallons), and T-Cell-15 (40,000 gallons).

The Aqua Rite is manufactured by one of the largest providers of swimming pool equipment, and is also know under the popular names Swim Pure Plus, Mineral Springs, Goldline Aquarite, NatureSoft, SplashCLEAR, AquaPlus, Blue Essence, and more. As a pool builder grade system, it has become one of the most widely-known salt systems available since it is the default choice for many pool stores as well as pool construction and service companies.

help
Once a month I'm still needing to shock the pool because I see little algae spots in the corners, but the chlorine reading has stayed around 2ppm since I installed it. The pool is a lot less of a headache now but I wish it would just stay clear- any help would be appreciated.

best thing I ever did for the pool
To install it I just cut and glued the pipe and connected it to the pool timer outlet in less than an hour. Its been a couple months and I haven't needed to add any chlorine!

Hayward warranty
Great when it works, but I'm not happy that the warranty replacement cell Hayward sent me is not the original cell. I looked it up, and it is apparently a cheaper one year version.

terrible customer support
Terrible customer support. It didn't work for a whole year and gave me bad readings. Called Hayward dozens of times. Finally realized that it was set on the wrong cell type. I didn't realize that T-15 was the wrong setting, because I ordered the 15,000 gallon system, but apparently I needed the T-3 setting which makes no sense.

works like a charm
We have an above ground pool that's about 10k gallons, and I wish we put this on there sooner. The pool store tried to talk me out of it but I haven't had to buy any more chlorine so far.

Q: My AQR X296 goldline chlorine generator needs to be calibrated. I know my salt should measure 2800, but the readout is 1800. How do I solve this?

Asked by: Timothy W Johnson - 4/17/2020
A: Make sure you have thoroughly cleaned your cell and independently measured your salinity. You can try these instructions: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/assets/doc/aquarite-consumer-troubleshooting-guide.pdf. If it goes back to the low reading at that point, it likely is depleted and needs replacement

Q: where do I add the salt

Asked by: Jerry Bryant - 6/29/2020
A: Salt gets added directly into the pool when you first install the system. It all dissolves and is constantly recycled by the system, it doesn't get used up.

Q: Is this suitable for an in ground hot tub with dedicated pump and filter?

Asked by: MemphisONE - 7/25/2021
A: You may want a smaller spa-model salt chlorinator depending on the size of the hot tub. A small pool-size salt chlorinator can work, depending on the plumbing, but it may be easy to over-chlorinate the pool. You can turn it down and run it less at that point, but you would have to balance its operation.

The Hayward Aqua Rite controls are a steel sheet-metal box with a hinged and latching door (similar to your circuit-breaker panel). It mounts on the wall (or nearby a post or support) by hanging the control box by a few keyholes on basic screws that have been secured in the wall. Inside of the Control Center door, there is a small LCD display screen (similar to a digital watch), which displays the average salinity reading, temperature, cell volts, cell current, chosen percentage chlorine output, instantaneous salinity, and different cell type settings. The controls have a dial that is used to raise and lower chlorine output, and a three-position switch to activate the system, deactivate the system, or activate the super chlorination mode.

Note: Hayward does not include a power cord or other needed connectors, grommets, or accessories with which to the control box is to be wired to your power supply.

The Hayward Aqua Rite TurboCell is an inline opaque-plastic housing which contains built-in titanium electrode plates and built-in power supply cord. The AquaRite salt cell has threaded connections on the inlet and outlet, which allow quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). The threaded connections attach to 2" unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
The Hayward Aqua Rite includes with it two 2" Threaded Unions, Flow Switch, and Instruction Manual.

Note: The manufacturer does not include a power cord with the Hayward Aqua Rite. The wiring harness will need to be purchased from a local hardware supply.
