ChlorMaker Hot Tub Sanitation System - Natural Salt Chlorine Generator
Power 0.07 lbs/day
Warranty 2 Year Limited
Rated Lifespan 7000 Hours
Max Capacity 2000 Gallons

ControlOMatic ChlorMaker salt chlorine generators are specifically designed to retrofit any brand of hot tub or spa up to 2000 gallons.

Sometimes, using a full-size saltwater pool system isn't an option for many spas, so the spa-style ChlorMaker chlorine generator is designed to be a very easy to install and does not interfere with the current plumbing or electronics: simply add salt, place in the water, and turn it on. The control unit plugs into a standard 110v GFCI outlet and attaches to the spa's skirt in just minutes.

The ChlorMaker is plug-and-play!

However, if you're looking for a concealed installation, the ChlorMaker Inline option allows the system to be connected to your existing pump/filter system and remain out of sight. Important: inline operation should be used with continuous pump operation or where power can be coordinated to turn pump and salt system on and off together.
The Chlormaker can also be utilized as a hot tub and spa saltwater bromine generator, for spas that currently use manual bromine sanitation

Why convert to salt? Because of the higher temperatures involved, the chemical balance of a hot tub must be continuously maintained in order to stay safe. Keeping up with spa and hot tub maintenance can be a challenge - forgetting to add chlorine or bromine just once can lead to cloudy, smelly spa problems. Even conventional chlorine feeder systems run out! Instead, Controlomatic ChlorMaker spa salt chlorinators allow you to automatically and consistently ensure crystal clear water without buying or adding anymore traditional chlorine or bromine. Using a very low level of natural salt, the ChlorMaker continuously sanitizes the water while eliminating the harsh chemical odors. That means a luxurious & natural experience when you soak in the hot tub, and worry-free & cost-effective maintenance along the way.

easy install
Make sure that you have an outlet within about 10 feet. I was lucky and just made it with the cord fully extended.

Spa
Works well, you can see it chlorinating the water. Decent deal too, my spa store wanted about four times as much for a salt system, but the trade off was that it would be completely integrated into my system. This one hangs over the side, so I basically treat it like I would a floating chlorine dispenser. I've played with putting this into my filter area, which might end up working.

SIMPLE DESIGN
A part of me wants to say how great this is, the hot tub has been staying totally clean and it has been a lot less work. The other part of me wants to say I think I could build this thing in my garage if I had the right parts...

Questions From Customers

Q: What would be the best set up for salt water in hot tub aquaterra spa 21 jets 230 volt/ 250 gallons H2O? Thank,

Asked by: Bea - 11/18/2017
A: This model would work for your size spa. You could also use the TechniChlor model which is a little less expensive, although this model has better controls.

Q: The generator has a stated 7000 hour life. At continuous run, that is approx 291 days of operation. Makes it somewhat expensive if you have to replace the system every 10 months. How much is the generator by itself?

Asked by: Brad Wiechelman - 7/28/2020
A: Something would be wrong if you ran it like that. That isn't the way a salt chlorinator is meant to work. The replacement cell is much less, you can see that here

Q: my spa is outside and see some harh elements in the winter. Is the controller on the outside of the tub can handle the elements that wisconsin weather.snow rain and ect.i have a 500 gal cal spa which is my best option to convert to salt water?

Asked by: ray - 6/15/2018
A: While the controller is outdoor-grade equipment, ControlOMatic states in their manual that you would want to bring the controller in once temperatures get below 32F. The controller is very easy to mount, so it should be pretty simple to bring it in if needed.

Here is a copy of the manual for more details:

Q: We have a portable hot tub . Would one of these systems work to convert it to a salt water tub?

Asked by: Deb - 8/26/2018
A: Yes since this just drapes over the side that should be easy. It's max capacity is 1000 gallons which I would imagine you are well under.

Q: Does this truly only have a 1000 gallon capacity? Seems strange as the next one has a 12000 gallon capacity.

Asked by: Keith Raines - 6/10/2020
A: Controlomatic's maximum rated capacity for this model is a 1000 gallon hot tub or spa. Other models may have more or less chlorine output and used in applications with different environments. (The temperature and amount of use of hot tubs can require more sanitation than you might realize).

Q: If the controller is not supposed to be used under 32* outside temperature....does this mean we could not use the hot tub in the winter here in Minnesota and would have to bring it indoors?

Asked by: Lisa - 7/25/2020
A: I believe Controlomatic is saying in the manual that you simply want to protect the control unit from extreme temperatures. You could consider using insulated covering or mounting in an area that gets a little residual warmth. It is extremely common to use these systems in cold climates.

The ChlorMaker control panel is a small unit that can easily be mounted to the side of the spa or a attached to a nearby support. Its controls have three buttons for adjusting the chlorine or bromine production, and four indicator lights that let you know when it is generating or when you might need to check the cell. For power, the controls simply require a standard GFCI outlet.

The control panel has two power adjustment buttons to control the amount of sanitation, and one button to activate its boost mode. The ChlorMaker provides 10 levels of chlorine production. Its LED indicators let you know what power setting you have it on and if your salinity level is low, OK, or high.

The ChlorMaker Cell simply drapes over the side of the hot tub into the water when you desire active spa sanitation, the spa doesn't even have to be on or running! The clear cell lets you see it working and allows for easy inspection.

The Cell can also be installed inline and out-of-sight directly into the existing spa plumbing when appropriate (see manufacturer recommendations) using the optional kit.

  • 15' Power Supply Cord
