FAQ

Q: This pump requires a 4 prong 240V circuit?

Asked by: Matthew Greener - 9/24/2018
A: The pump accommodates a three-wire connection from the house panel. In addition to this, the grounding lug is provided for a bare wire connection to the local ground at the pool equipment pad.

Q: Do you have a pump that works on clorinated pools?

Asked by: Roger Ellis Emery - 3/6/2021
A: All pumps we carry work on pools with traditional chlorination or with saltwater chlorination, they are a great way to save a lot on energy. If you don't already have a salt chlorine generator (what make it a "salt pool"), we have some models you can add in as little as 15 minutes. A salt chlorine generator can save up to 40% or more on traditional chlorine costs, and makes things easier and the water nicer.

Q: Does this pump have a set of auxiliary contacts? I have a 400,000BTU gas heater that requires a certain amount of flow across the heat exchanger to operate safely and efficiently. If not, can you offer a simple solution to that requirement? I currently have a 2.5HP 2 speed pump running through a timer, a pair speed dip switches, and a pair of relays (Blue Haven control panel). There's 1 relay for each speed. The high speed control circuit interlocks with the heater. Thanks.

Asked by: Gary - 4/27/2021
A: There are no external relays on this pump. There is an available interface kit for it to be able to be controlled by an external relay.

Q: Does this have a relay for a Salt Water Generator?

Asked by: NotAPoolBoy - 3/18/2019
A: No, not too many pumps use additional relays. Here is one that does: VJ-3 Pump (with relays)

Q: I am using with a Pentair 520 Cartridge Filter. I would like to increase the water flo return in my pool which is 40,000 gallons, but was afraid the Pentair 520 cartridge filter could not handle the additional water flow?

Asked by: Bill Gordon - 7/29/2019
A: Looking at the manufacturer specs, that filter has a max recommended flow rate of 150 gallons per minute, which for the typical pool should be able to handle the pump flow at high RPM. Plus one of the benefits of variable speed pumps is that you get better filtration during the pump's low RPM operation, which is the majority of the time.

Q: I'm looking to replace a Pentair 340039 Superflow. Will this fit/align or will I need to do additional plumbing?

Asked by: Cullen Davis - 4/29/2022
A: The inlet to this pump is roughly 1.5" taller than the inlet of the Superflo, so you would need to plumb for that difference.

Q: If I connect this to an external timer, will this start self priming when power is connected? Also can you set the default speed it will then lower itself too automatically? It needs to retain this setting since external timer will disconnect power.

Asked by: Morrolan - 11/17/2019
A: All variable speed pumps are intended to be directly connected to power so that the built-in controller controls when and how it works. You can absolutely set the default speeds and when they get lowered/raised, though it does come ready out-of-the-box with energy-effecient programming that works for most people. Every time it starts at the high speed to ensure priming. If you call us at 866-766-5243 we can help walk you through any other questions.
