Dr
L O V E this pump. Often the sounds of the water going through the pipe are louder than the pump. I use a cartridge 90 sq feet with a 1.5 hp pump in a 15000 gallon pool. The old pump would not clean the water and the pool would get algae, The problem with the old single speed pump was filter blow by/ blow through. The smaller particles got pushed through the filter and back into the pool. The Smartflo variable speed pump uses less energy without blow by. When you need the flow to clean or prime is is there. Run the pool more hours with less flow also helps the chlorine stay in circulation to keep the pool sanitized. Cleaner, more efficient, more sanitary and less bills!

Five star
Getting this was the best thing I've done at my house for a while, this is basically paying for itself with how much lower my utility bills are. Great controls, easy to use. All the parts seem well made. Good instructions.

Quick install and well built
Ordered the pump Tuesday, got it Thursday. Replaced my Pentair in about twenty minutes, it was pretty much a one to one swap. This thing runs like a quiet Ferrari, very pleased.

Like the controls
This is the third pump I've used on my pool over the years and it has the best and easiest controls from what I've seen. I didn't even really need to read the manual and I got it set up and programmed in just a couple minutes. Plus, its override button is great, I used to hate trying to get my old pump running at full speed when it wasn't during the programmed time so I could run my waterfall.

Questions From Customers

Q: Can this pump be converted to a 115v power supply? I didn't see any instructions to do so in the instruction manual and the outside panel of the wiring unit is too small in the pictures to read. Thanks!

Asked by: Kelly - 4/5/2019
A: No, truly energy efficient pumps require 220-2240V power in order to provide the energy savings that makes these pumps worthwhile. Most pools use 220 for their pumps, but if only 110-120V power is available you would need to add a line.

Q: How direct of a replacement would this be for a Pentair SuperFlo 1HP (340038)? Could I re-use plumbing and electrical?

Asked by: John - 8/27/2019
A: John, looking at the diagrams for each pump, I think for that model its close but the height of the SuperFlo suction port is roughly 1.5" lower. Electrical is typically the same. In the thumbnail pictures of the pump there are dimensional diagrams, you can compare that to what you have to be sure.

Q: this pump replace my haway super pump single speed without pipe modification?

Asked by: cesar - 10/28/2019
A: This pump does not directly replace a Hayward Superpump, it would require a small amount of change in your pipe positioning. You can see the dimensions of this pump if you look at the seventh thumbnail picture on the product page.

Q: I need to replace a CircuPool VJ-3 Model number PN90-v Would this pump be Fit, Form, and Function the same? Thanks for the help.

Asked by: James - 6/1/2020
A: No I don't think so, that model will have different controls and slightly different location for the ports. For a similar capacity, you would look at the 3THP model: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/CircuPool-SmartFlo%C2%AE-Variable-Speed-Pool-Pump--30-THP_p_290.html

Traditional pumps operate at set, unchangeable speeds. Those speeds are almost always higher than required. As a result, they overpower the jobs they’re assigned to do, which wastes energy. The SmartFlo pump allows custom programming of optimum pump speeds for specific tasks such as filtering, heating, cleaning, spa jets and waterfalls. For virtually all applications, the optimum speed is lower than the preset, unchangeable speeds of older pumps. When water moves more slowly for longer periods, it helps reduce the occurrence of algae that forms more easily when water is pumped briskly and then allowed to rest for long intervals. Your filter works more effectively because it has more time to sift out particles from the water, and because particles aren’t forced through the filter media under needlessly high pressure. Automatic chemical dispensers and chlorinators also work better when water is kept moving.

Typical pump sizing would be for pools ranging from: 5,000 - 20,000 gallons

Please consult a professional to ensure proper pump sizing. A pump's capacity should ensure 1-2 circulation "turnovers" of the water in the pool through the filter each day. Pools with water features & pressure-dependent equipment may require greater pump capacity. Properly sized variable-speed pumps typically have more total horsepower than the corresponding single-speed pump.
