best things for my home
This has been running for a while and I can say this is one of the best things for my home I've bought. It has made everything so much nicer and I went from having to mess with my pool almost every other day to basically nothing. I just wish I would have done this years ago.

Relatively easy
Installation was relatively easy. I really like the clear plastic around the salt cell, which allows for a visual inspection of the titanium plates. I would point out there is no digital read-out on the control panel that tells me ppm of salt, which my previous unit had. I will plan to buy a hand-held electronic device to test salinity with. However, it does let you know when the salinity level is no longer in range, and since its salinity operating range is so broad, maybe it doesn't really matter like on the old ones.

new system
The generator unit has been keeping the pool clean so no complaints. Wish it told you more specifics, how do I know my salt level isn't too high or low?

Very Good
This unit installed pretty easily. Masonary bit to drill into cinder block wall, simple mounting of control, followed by some cutting and gluing of the PVC. About one hour to install. It took about 24 hours to bring the chlorine level from about 0 to 3 ppm using the super chlorination mode. So far, a great deal for the $.

Questions From Customers

Q: what is the difference between SJ & the RJ systems?

Asked by: Bill - 3/6/2017
A: Great question. Beside the main differences in power and lifespan, here are a few of the things that set them apart once they are in your hands:

The SJ models are very simple, easy-to-use systems. They have status lights that verify the unit is working, tell you at what power level it is set, and whether you need to clean the cell or add salt to the pool. Because it is simple there is less to think about, it is particularly low maintenance (no acid is required to clean the cell), and it is also less expensive.

The RJ and RJ+ models are the flagship systems. They are more powerful and longer lasting. They have a digital screen and touch keypad, giving you more control and diagnostics. It displays the salinity level in real time, calculates the running average, displays the water temperature, and displays the electronic performance levels of the cell so you can see exactly how things are working. The power levels on the RJ models can be turned up and down in smaller increments. RJ models also synchronize more easily with variable-speed pumps if you plan to upgrade.

So the SJ gives you simplicity and a huge value, and the RJ gives you top of the line performance and control.

Q: I have an above ground pool and my pump uses 110v power, will this work for me?

Asked by: Linda - 3/27/2017
A: Yes, this system can work with either 220v or 110v power. It is set at the factory to accept 220v, which is most common for pools. However, it is made so you can easily change it to accept 110v by following the printed directions. Unlike a motor, it won't work any better or worse on either voltage, you only want to match what your pump uses so they can work on the same circuit together.

Q: Do I need the sacrificial anode for my system and does one come with the SJ-55 salt system?

Asked by: Ron - 5/20/2017
A: The need for a sacrificial anode is not clear cut or simply answered, but generally it isn't required. That being said, it is inexpensive peace of mind and won't hurt.

A: I am a pool service tech I make my money on a good service not sales I recommend customers buy these because they are cheaper and work better than the name brands and only charge installation which i do not take trips to Hawaii with maybe you have talked to some of the dishonest pool companies I sell zinc anodes for 8 dollars and they cost my 8 dollars maybe they are ancient but the pools with them have salt cells that last MUCH long stay MUCH cleaner the plaster tiles equipment look better I am a pool tech and would never have a salt system without an anode and you can get them for VERY cheap online you dont need it to be built into the plumbing buy 3 for 24 bucks throw one in each skimmer and one in the pump basket the pool surface the pool equipment and the salt generator will all thank you they also really help with calcification on tiles

A: No, sacrificial anodes are absolutely not required, and haven't been needed for saltwater pools in decades. People still sell them because they can sell a $5 piece of metal for $50.

Q: what size are the openings on the cell one and a half inch or two inch?

Asked by: steve rizzi - 8/24/2017
A: The openings are made to accept two inch pipes into them. For inch and a half, you would simply used two reducer bushings that you can pick up from your local hardware store.

Q: will this work with 2.5 inch piping?

Asked by: scott - 12/21/2017
A: Pools typically have 2" or 1.5" plumbing. Keep in mind these are ID (inner diameter) measurements. You might be measuring the outside of your pipe, which might make it seem like bigger pipe. The SJ-Series models accept standard 2" pipe into its cell unions, and if you have a different plumbing size, you can simply use standard pvc pipe adapters available at the hardware store.

Q: Will this unit work with a variable speed pump on very low speed (1000 rpm) ?

Asked by: KJ - 12/4/2018
A: I bumped up the run time on a higher speed to keep the cell totally submerged. not really a big deal, have noticed no difference in electric bill

Q: I have a variable speed pump with built in timer. Do I need a timer for the SJ-55 also or will it shut itself off when the water stops moving ?

Asked by: CharlieB - 3/7/2020
A: i installed a seperate timer, pump goes on first then salt cell 15 min later, also salt cell should shut off before pump shuts down.

Q: Will this unit work with a variable speed pump on very low speed (1000 rpm) ?

Asked by: KJ - 12/4/2018
A: Short answer is that they can, but it really depends on "flow rate" and not "pump rpm". Your pool will have a unique amount of "head" or resistance that determines what flow ("gallons per minute, GPM") you get from your pump's chosen speed. A salt system just needs enough water flowing to keep the cell full of water, which is typically very low GPM. Call us for more details, we will be glad to make sure you get the right equipment that will work well with your current setup.

Q: I have a variable speed pump with built in timer. Do I need a timer for the SJ-55 also or will it shut itself off when the water stops moving ?

Asked by: CharlieB - 3/7/2020
A: With this model you would want a timer that coordinates it's run time with your pumps program's times.

Q: What does the yellow light mean on an SJ55 salt system?

Asked by: James Bagley - 5/28/2020
A: If you're getting the service indicator, you'll want to confirm that the cell is fully clean, water is filling the cell, the water temp is over 65, and the salt level is 4000ppm.

The CircuPool SJ-55 system is controlled by the Control Module. Featuring a convenient medium size, molded-plastic exterior with a touch keypad and LED indicators to monitor settings and performance.

The control module mounts conveniently on most walls, posts, or supports. Just follow the accompanying instructions and mounting template for screw placements and installation.

The digital LED indicators on your control module will communicate whether or not your system is operating at optimum performance levels, and will otherwise alert you with its LED indicators for potential service issues such as: the pool's salt level is low, the cell needs cleaning, there is insufficient water flow, or it the water has reached winter temperatures. Keypad controls will also give you the ability to increase or decrease chlorine output, or activate a boost (or SuperCL) mode.

For the cell component of your CircuPool SJ-55 unit, it comes equipped with an SJ-55 electrolytic cell in a clear, raised housing. This contains a set of titanium electrode plates that can be removed, as well as a built-in power supply cord.

Thanks to its unique design, the SJ-55 has a reduced need for cleaning mineral deposits that may occur, which makes it one of the few systems that do not require acid for cell cleaning. You can easily remove the mineral deposits with the cleaning wand included in your system’s kit!

This cell also features threaded connections near the head of the cell, so you can quickly access the titanium plates whenever you need to service them, or if you need to take them out for winter. The cell comes with both 2” and 1.5” unions to easily connect to existing return-line PVC plumbing. The clear housing on the cell makes it easy to inspect for both cleaning and function purposes!

Included in the CircuPool SJ-55 parts kit is an instruction manual, 2" and 1.5" plumbing unions, o-rings, mounting hardware, flow switch, and cleaning wand.
