FAQ

Q: what is the difference between SJ & the RJ systems?

Asked by: Bill - 3/6/2017
A: Great question. Beside the main differences in power and lifespan, here are a few of the things that set them apart once they are in your hands:

The SJ models are very simple, easy-to-use systems. They have status lights that verify the unit is working, tell you at what power level it is set, and whether you need to clean the cell or add salt to the pool. Because it is simple there is less to think about, it is particularly low maintenance (no acid is required to clean the cell), and it is also less expensive.

The RJ and RJ+ models are the flagship systems. They are more powerful and longer lasting. They have a digital screen and touch keypad, giving you more control and diagnostics. It displays the salinity level in real time, calculates the running average, displays the water temperature, and displays the electronic performance levels of the cell so you can see exactly how things are working. The power levels on the RJ models can be turned up and down in smaller increments. RJ models also synchronize more easily with variable-speed pumps if you plan to upgrade.

So the SJ gives you simplicity and a huge value, and the RJ gives you top of the line performance and control.

Q: Does the SJ40 have a built in timer?

Asked by: Dave - 5/18/2017
A: No, like most systems it is designed to be hooked up to the same circuit as the pump so they turn on and off together, which for most people means an existing external timer, pool controller, or switch. You can get a timer cheap at the hardware store if needed.

Q: We have a 22,000 gallons pool- do we choose SJ20 or SJ40?

Asked by: Philip - 6/21/2017
A: You always want to have plenty of extra capacity, so the SJ40. You can always go bigger as well. Here is a little more info about system sizing:

Q: I have an above ground pool and my pump uses 110v power, will this work for me?

Asked by: Linda - 3/27/2017
A: Yes, this system can work with either 220v or 110v power. It is set at the factory to accept 220v, which is most common for pools. However, it is made so you can easily change it to accept 110v by following the printed directions. Unlike a motor, it won't work any better or worse on either voltage, you only want to match what your pump uses so they can work on the same circuit together.

Q: I have a variable speed pump and I am concerned about the minimum flow rate required for this unit. Does this unit have a flow rate sensor that shuts the unit off if the flow rate is below 30gpm? I'm not sure what my flow rate is at low RPM, but I want to make sure this unit will operate.

Asked by: Ken - 12/21/2017
A: To use this model with a variable speed pump, you would want to put it on a timer and coordinate it's run time with the pumps programmed schedule. Alternatively, you may want to look at the RJ-Series models, which use a flow switch that makes it more simple to use with a variable speed pump.

Q: Does the SJ40 have a built in timer?

Asked by: Dave - 5/18/2017
A: 15 Amp timers can be found cheap at the hardware store. However, if your pump uses 15 amps or more, you will need to find a 20 amp or larger timer. Those are not so cheap at the hardware store. I found a 20 amp day/night timer for a reasonable price $35 online. It allows you to divide the time the pump is on between day and night (2/4/6/8/10 or 12 hours for day and night) so that the water doesn't sit still so long.

Q: What all pool pumps is this salt generator compatible with?

Asked by: jessica - 6/16/2017
A: Saltwater chlorine generators are typically able to work with whatever model pool pump and filter system you already have! You simply add this in addition to your other equipment, after the existing pump and filter in the return plumbing line.

Q: Does this product connect with existing plumbing to replace a compupool cpsc36 without having to redo plumbing or use an adapter kit?

Asked by: KC - 9/17/2017
A: The CircuPool SJ models look similar, but they are actually different enough in shape that it wouldn't directly connect to a Compu Pool CPSC model. However, you CAN connect a CircuPool RJ model to your old CPSC unions using the available Vertical Installation Kit, which makes things very easy. You can see that here:
