How can I tell if my cell needs to be replaced?

If your salt cell needs to be replaced, you probably have a problem with low chlorine, but if your chlorine level is a problem then the cell is only one of several possible issues, notably including excessive chlorine demand. Essentially, you have either a system problem or a water problem.

System problems will generally reveal themselves with error messages or warning lights on the control module. The typical indications of the cell needing replacement will be one or both of the following: Low Salt warnings that are present with correct salinity and Check/Clean Cell warnings that display when the cell is verifiably clean.

Do I have to buy the same cell that came with it?

If you are referring to buying the same brand, there’s no question that the original OEM salt cell is exactly what your system was designed to use. However, commonly there are aftermarket replacement cells available which fit into place and operate quite satisfactorily. It is your prerogative to employ one of these aftermarket replacements if you are satisfied with the specifications, price warranty, and reported compatibility.

If you were asking about buying the same capacity cell, then OEM or aftermarket alike, you need to first determine whether your control or power module can accommodate a different size. Assuming you can change sizes, a larger cell is virtually always a good choice. However, in downsizing, make sure the smaller cell is still sufficiently large to maintain 1.5-2 times sizing of the cell relative to the pool’s volume.

I bought this as a replacement cell. Have for 3 weeks approx and seems to be doing a good job. Old celldid not last as long as it should have, but there was 40% warranty remaining plus a discount which really helped take the pain away. The warranty was suggested by all representatives which was a pleasant releif from the scratching and clawing required by other companies to substantiate a claim. Kudos for that.

When the system works correctly it is almost maintenance free for weeks at a time vs, daily with the chlorine system.

Quality salt cell

In my experience they seem to last longer if you clean them quarterly. I use vinegar instead of the harsh muriatic acid. It takes longer but is easier on the metel.

Q: am Am looking to replace the cell for my salt generator can not find the correct cell replacement can you provide that information from serial # and Contract Number? Serial # 3XXXXXX

A: For these classic models, the best way to determine exactly which cell you need is by taking a quick look at what you currently have installed. Look down through the clear housing if it is currently in the plumbing, and count the number of large rectangular titanium plates (blades). The RJ16/RJ20 has 4 blades, the RJ30 has 5 blades, the RJ45 has 7 blades, and the RJ60 has 10 blades. If you are still unsure after looking, just give us a call (866-766-5243).

Q: Can you trade in an old classic cell?

A: I don't think there is a trade-in, but I would recommend calling manufacturer support because there is the possibility that there might be some warranty coverage remaining.

Q: My RJ-30 continue to say that it has a water fault. I have cleaned the cells and my local pool company says that my water is balanced but I have no clorine. What can I do? ps I have a vinyl liner pool
