Optional - For Use With DE Filters

When recharging DE filters, this optional installation kit can be used to route water around the TJ16 prefilter during the process of adding DE (Diatomaceous Earth) powder to the skimmer. This bypass allows the DE powder to reach the grids in your DE Filter, instead of being caught by the centrifugal filtration of the TJ16. This item is not typically needed if a cartridge or sand filter is present.

Pre filter bypass
Works well. Glad I bought it rather than made my own.

Good Product if you have a D.E filter
I recommend the TJ bypass kit if you have a D.E Filter especially when adding D.E so you can by pass the TJ16 filter. I connected the tubing from the pool pump. Then installed the TJ16 filter due to the weight, I added 2x4 for support temporary until I installed 4x4 treated wood for better support. I also added some union joint for future update.. like a pumps (I also bought the jr60 circupool , wish I bought the pump to take advantage of the discount)

NECESSARY and a tad pricey.
The TJ-BYPASS-KIT for the CircuPool® TJ16 Pre-Filter (in my opinion) is NOT AN OPTION for DE Filter owners. I have had my TYPHOON with bypass kit installed and operating for just a little over two weeks. Focusing this review on the bypass assembly only, appreciate that the task of the TYPHOON is to seperate and contain dirt from the water that passes through it. Well then you will appreciate that DE (dirt) will also be spereated and contained in the TYPHOON if you don't somehow bypass the TYPHOON. Without the bypass installed you would have to uninstall the TYPHOON and install a bypass patch into your system plumbing everytime you need to add DE. With the TJ-BYPASS-KIT installed all you have to do is turn the bypass valve, add your DE then turn it back. DONE! This rule also applies to other additives you would normally put into the skimmer. I added some granulated cyanuric acid into my skimmer and bingo it now lays in the bottom of the TYPHOON. Still is in the water system but I should have used my bypass valve for the few minutes I was adding the acid. (Was just thinking DE...No big) For you DIY folks (as I am) I don't recommend building your own bypass assembly. The bypass kit is a no brainer designed for this purpose and is a custom fit with no questions. Just a tad pricey.

Q: Do i need to use the bypass when i add salt, powdered shock, etc. to my pool? i know i must use it to add D.E.

Asked by: Dennis Skinner - 5/18/2022
A: Good question - it is primarily for the DE powder which needs to be sure to reach the DE Filter. If there were anything else that, like the DE powder needed to be added in a concentrated form directly to the skimmer and needs to make it past the prefilter, you would use the bypass. However, I'm not immediately able to think of any other examples. Most other chemical additions are meant to go into the body of the pool and dissolve and disperse.
