A good chlorinator
Pool was built with a true chlor 35k unit, and for the last two years I had to put chlorine in every week just to hope to keep the water clear. I replaced this last month fairly easily as both units are about the same size. It has easily been able to keep up with the pool and I haven't had to add any extra chlorine yet. Its actual cell inside seems to be almost twice as big, so it kind of makes sense why its doing a the job. I also like that I don't have a big wall unit any more, and I especially liked that I didn't have to do any wiring when putting this new system in. We'll see how it goes once we reach August, but for now I think this has been a very good chlorinator.

works like a charm
I have found this salt generator to work exceptionally well in keeping my pool clear. It lets me know whether the salt is high or low and the generator is adjustable so you can reduce or increase the amount of conversion. it's easy to clean the element with a little muriatic acid at the end of the season

Instructions weren't clear to me
Installation was certainly easy. At just 50 % output, the generator keeps my 20,000-gallon pool crystal-clear—no algae at all. The only ding here was when it came to direct-wiring for 240 V. My pad runs 240 V, yet the manual barely explains how to hard-wire the supplied 120 V cord. My wires are black red and green, and the generator's cable has black white and green inside. I followed the schematic and treated the white conductor as the second hot leg. In other words, connect black (hot) to black, white (now hot) to red, and green to ground. I held my breath at start-up not knowing if something was going to blow... but thankfully the system recognized the voltage and powered up smoothly. A clear, step-by-step 240 V section in the manual would have spared that anxious moment.

Extremely good quality for the money
The unit is really well engineered. I was very impressed with the build quality. Modular design makes install and maintenance a breeze. I frankly can't believe that for half the price of a comparable unit at the pool store that this seems like a *significantly* better product. Very pleased.

Q: How do I convert my E Chlor to 240 ? How would I tie it into my timer ?

A: The unit is auto-voltage sensing - you can give it either 240 or 120 and it converts it automatically. If you have a traditional timer with bare-wire relays, you would simply remove its plug and direct wire it as needed just as if it didn't come with a plug.

Q: Does it matter if the salt system is installed vertical or does it have to be installed horizontal? I don't think i have enough pipe in the horizontal to install it that way. This is for the E-CHLOR plug in.

A: The APX PERFORMANCE E-CHLOR unit should, according to the manufacturer, be installed horizontally and they also indicate the need for an 11 inch span of pipe for installation.

Q: Will the system run at all times or only when the pool pump is running?

A: The APX PERFORMANCE E-CHLOR Plug-In Electronic Chlorine Generator will only operate when the pump is running. Within the Cell Housing, the E-CHLOR has a Flow Switch which detects waterflow and allows the Chlorinator to operate until it no longer detects circulation or the waterflow drops below the minimum necessary for safe operation.

Q: where do I buy a replacement cell for this unit? how Long do they last? ALSO, is this system compatible with 1.5 inch plumbing?

A: The APX PERFORMANCE E-CHLOR has a 10,000 hour lifespan salt cell, similar to many premium saltwater chlorinators. Consequently, the life of the cell should be comparable to competing chlorinators. The life you obtain from the cell may vary considerably based on the degree to which the system is sized appropriately for your pool, your pool usage, water chemistry management, and more. The unit is designed to connect to 2" PVC, but can be used on 1.5" pipe with the use of commonly-available reducer bushings. Replacement cells are available from us and can be found on our website here

Q: How long is the 120v cord?

A: The power cable is approximately 5.5' long, and can be modified / replaced if needed. There is a junction panel for the power cable where it enters the E-CHLOR control module.

Q: My PVC runs horizontal, and have pipe running parallel, under the section where I need to install this, which doesn’t leave me with enough clearance needed for the bottom of the cell. Can I pivot this when installing so the controls are back at an angle, and the bottom of the cell is more towards the front, to get around the PVC below? Or does this need to be installed straight up and down as shown?

A: As long as you have good waterflow that keeps the clear housing filled, you should be okay with the minor tilt you're describing.

Q: What are the dimensions of the unit. I need to know the width of hook-up from inlet to outlet hook-up and the distance from the centerline of the pipe hook-up to the bottom of the cartridge.

A: The APX PERFORMANCE E-CHLOR requires 11" of straight pipe into which a 7.5" space is cut.
The cell housing extends about 4 1/2" below the centerline of the pipe.
