The APEX P40 aftermarket replacement salt cell compatible with Pentair IntelliChlor® IC-40 models is a great alternative choice for your salt chlorinator system while replacing your old Pentair salt cell. The APEX P40 salt cell makes 1.6 lbs/day of chlorine. This APEX P40 cell has the same length and threads to ensure proper fit and easy replacement of an existing Pentair IntelliChlor IC-40 cell. When replacing your original OEM IC-40 Intellichlor salt cell, satisfaction is guaranteed.

Many users like the APEX P40 aftermarket replacement cell's onboard digital controller which allows you to adjust chlorine output with a tap of a button in small increments, and displays the actual salinity in PPM! This aftermarket replacement cell offers user-friendly controls and an economic price point.

Guaranteed to fit and work with:
  • Pentair IntelliChlor IC40
  • Pentair Intelli-Chlor 40,000 Gallons
  • All IntellChlor 520556 Power Centers
  • Item IDs: 520555, EC-520555

When replacing an OEM Pentair IC-40 cell, typical installation of the APEX P40 aftermarket replacement salt cells is easy. The plug-and-play replacement process simply involves unscrewing the existing cell from the plumbing, disconnecting it from the power center, and then reconnecting the APEX P40 cell in a similar fashion. Since it can utilize the existing connections for the Pentair IC-40, installation can usually be done in minutes without tools. The APEX P40 cell includes the power cable (standard 14') and extra unions compatible with the Intellichlor models.

Note: The aftermarket cell does not utilize a RS-485 or data connection for integration with automation systems like Pentair Intellitouch, Pentair Easy Touch®, Jandy® AquaLink®, Hayward® AquaLogic® and Hayward ProLogic®

The APEX P40 Cell is not manufactured, endorsed, or sold by Pentair. Neither APEX nor the P40 cell is affiliated with Pentair; the use of manufacturer names, product names, part numbers, or such trademarks herein are included for compatibility designations and informational purposes only.

Works perfect
This was a no brainer! It fit right into where the old bad Pentair cell was, and cleared the pool up overnight. My old cell only lasted two years and then left me suddenly with a green pool. Couldn't get help from the pool store that installed it or the manufacturer. This was a fraction of the cost and I did it myself easily. Plus, I love the screen! Will update in a couple months... UPDATE 6/24: Finally had to replace the cell about 5 years later. I didn't know when I first got this but now I was psyched when I learned that I could just replace the cell's "tube" which is dirt cheap since the electronic controls don't have to be replaced. This was absolutely a better cell option.

Outstanding
An outstanding company !!! My situation: Like many, I was effected by the unusual freezing temperatures in Texas and the South in Feb 2021. As a result, I needed to replace my salt chlorine generator. My generator was a Pentair Intellichlor model. However, these were nowhere to be found! I'm sure the phenomenon the history books will call COVID-19 was mostly to blame. So, I'm looking for anywhere I can find a replacement. I find a generic model at Discount Salt Pool. I'm concerned the generic replacement will be somehow inferior and I'll regret the purchase. I call the number expecting to get a machine. I speak to a human within 10 seconds. I have an intelligent conversation about this generic replacement. This guy knows his stuff ! OK, I order. The generic replacement is honestly probably superior to the OEM, and it was cheaper. You NEVER see that anymore. An aftermarket replacement that is cheaper AND better. Well, this model is. I call on a Sunday a month later, and again, speak to a HUMAN within 10 seconds. Another intelligent conversation. Guess where I'll order all pool stuff in the future?

Actually better than the original
Much better than the original cell I replaced. Received it quickly and I didn't even need to read the instructions, it was easy enough that I removed the old Intellichlor cell and replaced it myself the evening it came in the mail. I especially think that this was a much better choice b/c it has a screen, you have more options for how it runs, and it's been keeping the pool clear running on a lower setting which is great.

Excellent Product
After using 3 Pentair salt cells in 6 summers, we decided to try this salt cell. The fit was perfect, and I like having the ability to increase the generation by 10% intervals. The cell is working great!

Working after I figured it out
After I figured out the the light means it is generating and not a problem, its working fine. I like being able to fine tune it and also to see the salt level.

Q: The generate light is flashing green. What does this mean? All other lights are sold green.

Asked by: beam - 6/12/2019
A: When the system is operational and connected to power, the "Generate" LED light will be lit solidly. During times that the system is currently generating chlorine, the "Generate" LED light blinks (this will be intermittently throughout the day unless you leave it at 100% output).

Q: does the cell still need to be cleaned and if so how often?

Asked by: Michael Parla - 11/15/2019
A: Yes, all salt cells need to be cleaned eventually. The frequency of cleaning for this cell should be just as much time as your original. The amount of time that actually takes depends on your water chemistry, and on average that could be once ever 6-8 weeks. The LED indicators let you know when though.

Q: Can I plug this into the pentair easy touch panel? Will it have enough power to run this ?

Asked by: Christa - 6/23/2019
A: It has the same standard Pentair IntelliChlor cord connections, and yes it can be used with the standard Pentair power supply unit. These don't communicate with external controllers or RS485 data connections (though that isn't necessarily needed).

Q: How does the cell produce so much more power per day (2.1 lbs) than the original pentair unit? Are the comparisons based on equivalent settings?

Asked by: Michael - 1/14/2020
A: Yes, that's an apples to apples comparison. All chlorine output specs are tested and rated based on full output over 24 hours of run time. It was designed as a higher performing cell.

The APEX P40 controls are mounted on top of the electrolytic cell (separately replaceable). It has a bright LED screen that displays the actual measured salt levels, ten sanitizer output power levels, and LED indicator lights to display if there is an issue with the salt level, water flow, water temperature, or whether the cell requires checking or service. The P40 also includes onboard diagnostics. The controls also have a built-in mechanical flow switch that ensures sufficient water flow for chlorine generation. Under low water temperature conditions, the control's automatic shut-off feature protects the unit and prolongs cell life.
A special feature of the APEX P40 is that when replacement is needed in the future, its electrolytic cell is replaceable separate from the electronics; this can provide significant savings and can greatly add to the lifetime value of the APEX P-Series cells. The APEX P40 aftermarket salt cell has an inline opaque-plastic housing that contains built-in titanium electrode plates, top-mounted electronic controls, a integrated flow switch, and a built-in power supply cord. The aftermarket APEX P40 salt cell has the same threaded connections on the inlet and outlet, to allow for direct replacement of the original OEM Pentair Intelli Chlor IC-40 salt cell and quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). The threaded connections attach to the existing unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
