The APX PERFORMANCE P40 aftermarket replacement salt cell compatible with Pentair IntelliChlor® IC-40 models is a great alternative choice for your salt chlorinator system while replacing your old Pentair salt cell. The APX P40 salt cell makes 1.6 lbs/day of chlorine. This APX P40 cell has the same length and threads to ensure proper fit and easy replacement of an existing Pentair IntelliChlor IC-40 cell. When replacing your original OEM IC-40 Intellichlor salt cell, satisfaction is guaranteed.
Many users like the APX P40 aftermarket replacement cell's onboard digital controller which allows you to adjust chlorine output with a tap of a button in small increments, and displays the actual salinity in PPM! This aftermarket replacement cell offers user-friendly controls and an economic price point.

When replacing an OEM Pentair IC-40 cell, typical installation of the APX P40 aftermarket replacement salt cells is easy. The plug-and-play replacement process simply involves unscrewing the existing cell from the plumbing, disconnecting it from the power center, and then reconnecting the APX P40 cell in a similar fashion. Since it can utilize the existing connections for the Pentair IC-40, installation can usually be done in minutes without tools. The APX P40 cell includes the power cable (standard 14') and extra unions compatible with the Intellichlor models.
Note: The aftermarket cell does not utilize a RS-485 or data connection for integration with automation systems like Pentair Intellitouch, Pentair Easy Touch®, Jandy® AquaLink®, Hayward® AquaLogic® and Hayward ProLogic®

General FAQ
If your salt cell needs to be replaced, you probably have a problem with low chlorine, but if your chlorine level is a problem then the cell is only one of several possible issues, notably including excessive chlorine demand. Essentially, you have either a system problem or a water problem.
System problems will generally reveal themselves with error messages or warning lights on the control module. The typical indications of the cell needing replacement will be one or both of the following: Low Salt warnings that are present with correct salinity and Check/Clean Cell warnings that display when the cell is verifiably clean.
If you are referring to buying the same brand, there’s no question that the original OEM salt cell is exactly what your system was designed to use. However, commonly there are aftermarket replacement cells available which fit into place and operate quite satisfactorily. It is your prerogative to employ one of these aftermarket replacements if you are satisfied with the specifications, price warranty, and reported compatibility.
If you were asking about buying the same capacity cell, then OEM or aftermarket alike, you need to first determine whether your control or power module can accommodate a different size. Assuming you can change sizes, a larger cell is virtually always a good choice. However, in downsizing, make sure the smaller cell is still sufficiently large to maintain 1.5-2 times sizing of the cell relative to the pool’s volume.
Outstanding
An outstanding company !!! My situation: Like many, I was effected by the unusual freezing temperatures in Texas and the South in Feb 2021. As a result, I needed to replace my salt chlorine generator. My generator was a Pentair Intellichlor model. However, these were nowhere to be found! I'm sure the phenomenon the history books will call COVID-19 was mostly to blame. So, I'm looking for anywhere I can find a replacement. I find a generic model at Discount Salt Pool. I'm concerned the generic replacement will be somehow inferior and I'll regret the purchase. I call the number expecting to get a machine. I speak to a human within 10 seconds. I have an intelligent conversation about this generic replacement. This guy knows his stuff ! OK, I order. The generic replacement is honestly probably superior to the OEM, and it was cheaper. You NEVER see that anymore. An aftermarket replacement that is cheaper AND better. Well, this model is. I call on a Sunday a month later, and again, speak to a HUMAN within 10 seconds. Another intelligent conversation. Guess where I'll order all pool stuff in the future?

The APX PERFORMANCE P40 controls are mounted on top of the electrolytic cell (separately replaceable). It has a bright LED screen that displays the actual measured salt levels, ten sanitizer output power levels, and LED indicator lights to display if there is an issue with the salt level, water flow, water temperature, or whether the cell requires checking or service. The P40 also includes onboard diagnostics. The controls also have a built-in mechanical flow switch that ensures sufficient water flow for chlorine generation. Under low water temperature conditions, the control's automatic shut-off feature protects the unit and prolongs cell life.
A special feature of the APX P40 is that when replacement is needed in the future, its electrolytic cell is replaceable separate from the electronics; this can provide significant savings and can greatly add to the lifetime value of the APX PERFORMANCE P-Series cells. The APX P40 aftermarket salt cell has an inline opaque-plastic housing that contains built-in titanium electrode plates, top-mounted electronic controls, a integrated flow switch, and a built-in power supply cord. The aftermarket APX PERFORMANCE P40 salt cell has the same threaded connections on the inlet and outlet, to allow for direct replacement of the original OEM Pentair Intelli Chlor IC-40 salt cell and quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). The threaded connections attach to the existing unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
