The APX PERFORMANCE P20 aftermarket replacement salt cell is guaranteed to work with Pentair IntelliChlor® IC-20 models, and is a great alternative choice for your salt chlorinator system while replacing your old Pentair salt cell. The APX P20 salt cell makes 0.8 lbs/day of chlorine. This APX P20 cell has the same length and threads to ensure proper fit and easy replacement of an existing Pentair IntelliChlor IC20 cell. When replacing your original OEM IC20 Intellichlor salt cell, satisfaction is guaranteed.

Many users like the APX P20 aftermarket replacement cell's onboard digital controller which allows you to adjust chlorine output with a tap of a button in small increments, and displays the actual salinity in PPM! This aftermarket replacement cell offers user-friendly controls and an economic price point.

Guaranteed to fit and work with:
  • Pentair IntelliChlor IC20
  • Pentair Intelli-Chlor 20,000 Gallons
  • All IntellChlor 520556 Power Centers
  • Item IDs: 520554, EC-520554

When replacing an OEM Pentair IC-20 cell, typical installation of the APX P20 aftermarket replacement salt cells is easy. The plug-and-play replacement process simply involves unscrewing the existing cell from the plumbing, disconnecting it from the power center, and then reconnecting the APX P20 cell in a similar fashion. Since it can utilize the existing connections for the Pentair IC-20, installation can usually be done in minutes without tools. The APX P20 cell includes the power cable (standard 14') and extra unions that fits existing Intellichlor models.

Note: The aftermarket cell does not utilize a RS-485 or data connection for integration with automation systems like Pentair Intellitouch, Pentair Easy Touch®, Jandy® AquaLink®, Hayward® AquaLogic® and Hayward ProLogic®

The APX PERFORMANCE P20 Cell is not manufactured, endorsed, or sold by Pentair. Neither APX PERFORMANCE nor the P20 cell is affiliated with Pentair; the use of manufacturer names, product names, part numbers, or such trademarks herein are included for compatibility designations and informational purposes only.

Working after I figured it out
After I figured out the the light means it is generating and not a problem, its working fine. I like being able to fine tune it and also to see the salt level.

Perfect fit
This fit right in to the plumbing and plugged right in to my power supply box on the wall. This took 10 minutes, and I paid exactly half of what the pool company wanted - GOOD DEAL...

So far, so good
I have used the Pentair salt cells for the entire 11 years that I've had a pool. The first one lasted 5 years but the last two only lasted 3 years, each. They are SO expensive so I decided to give the generic salt cell a try. Our pool was opened on May 3, 2021 and we are clear and producing free chlorine right now on May 13. The generic unit fit right into the housing for the Pentair. It was super easy to install & is working well. I'll try to remember to do a follow-up review in a few years. I hope that we can get 5 years out of the generic salt cell.

Upgraded
I ordered this and got it the next day and installed it in a snap. Old one had to run at 100% now during august, new one cleared the pool up in a day and I had to turn it down because it was actually able to make too much chlorine. Great upgrade to the pool system

Questions From Customers

Q: Will I need to do any work to put this in or need any tools?

Asked by: Luke - 9/27/2019
A: No, its basically plug and play. It connects to the pipes where the old one was with threaded connectors, and you hook it up to the power center with a cord just like your old one.

Q: I see that the ic20 aftermarket replacement does more. My only worry is that it will run constantly. does the flow switch stop the salt generation when the pump is off? If so, I see no reason for the communication cable anyway. Is there any reason not to replace pentair with aftermarket?

Asked by: Larry L. - 5/17/2023
A: The flow switch definitely stops generation when the water is not flowing.

Q: I am looking to replace my pentair Intellichlor ic 15 which has a plug in to outlet- will this fit and is it compatible

Asked by: Jennifer - 5/18/2022
A: Unfortunately the IC15 uses a different power supply than the rest of the intellichlor series. The IC20 cell is meant to plug into the more heavy duty intellichlor power supply that hangs on the wall.

Q: will it work with the easy touch system

Asked by: Benardino romano - 8/1/2022
A: The cell cable has the same standard Pentair IntelliChlor cord connections to the power supply unit. These don't communicate with external controllers or RS485 data connections, but this isn't necessary for operation just for remote display/control.

Q: I am having problems with my pentair lasting, is this one design to last longer, and yes I do clean my pentair. and are the plates in it serviceable?

Asked by: John Charleston - 2/20/2023
A: The APEX P20 Aftermarket Replacement Cell is not designed to last longer than the OEM salt cells. However, the P20 does produce more chlorine at full output, so all other things being equal, it would operate at a slightly lower percentage output for the same level of chlorination and so on that basis may outlive an OEM cell. Regarding serviceability of the cell plates, yes, the actual cell portion is replaceable separate from the electronic controls.

Q: Can it replace ichlor30 on fittings side? Capacity wise I’m fine w 20k gallons.

Asked by: KK - 9/30/2021
A: The ichlor30 is shorter in length. If by chance your ichlor was installed using the ichlor-to-intellichlor adapter kit, you could remove that kit and it would hook right up. If not, then you would just cut out the old cell and plumb in the new cell (it comes with new fittings). Then connect it to the power center on the wall.

Q: Can the IC20 be mounted vertically since it appears the flow sensor is on the exit side of the flow?

Asked by: Mike - 1/2/2023
A: This cell can be mounted in either orientation just like the original

Q: Will this unit work with the Intellicenter automation system from Pentair?

Asked by: Mike F - 12/3/2022
A: The cell cable has the same standard Pentair IntelliChlor cord connections to the power supply unit. These don't communicate with external controllers or RS485 data connections, but this isn't necessary for operation just for remote display/control.

Q: Will this work in place of the pentair iChlor 30(1.0)

Asked by: Josh - 2/28/2023
A: The ichlor30 works with the same power center was the Pentair Intellichlor, so this item would work with it as well. However, the ichlor30 cell is shorter in length than Intellichlor cells. That means you would need to replumb by cutting out the old cell and gluing in the new cell (it comes with new fittings). Then connect it to the power center on the wall.

Q: I have the Pentair Ic30, do you have a replacement for that unit

Asked by: Mike - 4/19/2023
A: You can see the ichlor30 cell here: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/pentair-ichlor-30-replacement-salt-cell-523009

Or the intellichlor-style cells could be used with the existing ichlor cell power supply unit but you would have to replumb since the ichlor cell is shorter in length.

The controls for this APX P20 are mounted on top of the electrolytic cell (separately replaceable). It has a bright LED screen that that displays the actual measured salt levels, ten sanitizer output power levels, and LED indicator lights to display if there is an issue with the salt level, water flow, water temperature, or whether the cell requires checking or service. The P60 also includes onboard diagnostics. The controls also have a built-in mechanical flow switch that ensure sufficient water flow for chlorine generation. Under low water temperature conditions, the control's automatic shut-off feature protects the unit and prolongs cell life.
A special feature of the APX P20 is that when replacement is needed in the future, its electrolytic cell is replaceable separate from the electronics; this can provide significant savings and can greatly add to the lifetime value of the APX PERFORMANCE P-Series cells. The APX P20 electrolytic cell is an inline opaque-plastic housing which contains built-in titanium electrode plates, top-mounted electronic controls, integrated flow switch, and built-in power supply cord. The APX P20 salt cell has threaded connections on the inlet and outlet; the P20 cell has the same length and theads as the original OEM Pentair IntelliChlor IC20 salt cells to allow easy replacement and quick access for service or winter removal (if applicable). These threaded connections attach to the existing unions which are glued to the existing return-line PVC plumbing.
