Replacing the IC20 cell will allow your salt chlorine generator to begin chlorinating again if your old IC20 salt cell has been depleted. The IC20 cell sanitizes your swimming pool in an eco-friendly and cost-efficient way, and also helps provide a luxurious swimming experience without the eye irritation and dry skin. Monitoring chlorine production is easy with the IntelliChlor generator. It’s the only one with all controls and displays built into the cell. Just select from one of five sanitizing levels to easily manage chlorine addition.

Sizing:

When replacing your Intellichlor salt cell, take this opportunity to make sure it is sized correctly for your pool. Sizing your salt cell properly is key to making sure you will not need to supplement with additional chlorine or shock your pool, and also extends the lifespan of your cell. The industry recommends using a salt cell with a max capacity of 1.5-2 times the actual size of your pool (more is better). The Intellichlor IC20 is manufacturer rated for a maximum capacity of 20,000 gallons.

Compatibility:

This replacement salt cell for the IC20 is 100% compatible with all Intellichlor Power Centers (no software/firmware issues). The IC20 cell has the same length, threading, and cable connection for direct replacement.

To get the most life out of your salt cell and to keep your pool running without unexpected interruptions, make sure it is sized correctly, maintain correct water balance, and be sure and inspect your cell at least every 3 months for leaks, debris, and calcium scale. Be sure to follow instructions in the product manual and clean the cell as often as the system indicates.

Q: My pool is approx 9000 gal. I have an intellichlor IC20 for about 7 yrs now. Although I have all GREEN lights my chlorine remains low. Been running between 80% & 100% and I'm lucky if I get a 2 or slightly above. I have cleaned it - there was some build up but it was clean in less than a minute. I may have used more Muriatic Acid that noted on different videos. (some say 1 to 1 while others say 4-1). I used to always run itat 60% and my chlorine level stayed a 5. Stabilizer and ph are fine. Does this mean my cell is on the way out.?????

Asked by: Paul - 9/24/2017
A: Based on my experience, Pentair IntelliChlor cells last most people 2-4 years, but it depends on how its used. If its that old, I would not expect to have much more useful lifespan left. However, one or more service lights will usually illuminate at that point, so it might be worthwhile to also do some troubleshooting on the controls first.

Asked by: Dan - 9/10/2018
A: They use different power centers, the IC20 and larger cells use a much bigger power supply: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/Pentair-IntelliChlor-Power-Center_p_96.html

Q: Is the new Pentair Intellichlor 20 the same dimensions in length as my older one .....which is about 10 years old????

Asked by: Robert Godau - 11/20/2019
A: Yes, if it is marked as a Pentair Intellichlor, the dimensions have not changed. You could also consider this item, which would be a significant upgrade and less expensive: https://www.discountsaltpool.com/Replacement-Cell-for-Pentair-IntelliChlor-IC40-520555--Generic-Salt-Cell-Upgrade_p_326.html

Q: I have a ic20 that has died so I need to replace it should I replace with the 1c40 or stay with ic20 I have 11,50 gallon pool?

Asked by: Polly - 3/7/2022
A: Having a more powerful system is often an advantage, since you can make more chlorine more quickly if a problem arises, but then normally the system is wearing out more slowly because you can run it on a lower output. Q: I have a PENTAIR intellichlor IC20 which seems to be working fine and my water is testing perfect, but my salt level shows zero. Is this a sensor.?

Asked by: RICH S - 2/22/2023
A: Typically when the salt system's salinity reads falsely low, there is an issue which is keeping it from passing power along through the cell like normal (it reads the salinity from the conductivity in the cell). Thoroughly clean the cell, multiple times if needed until when you put it into freshly-mixed cleaning solution you don't see any more "fizzing". If the cell is clean and you confirm the salinity level is actually in range by testing it independently, then mostly likely the cell is needing to be replaced.
