General FAQ
These saltwater chlorine generator systems come with everything you need except salt, PVC glue, primer, a saw, and a few common tools.
In addition to adding salt to your pool water, installation entails adding one new piece of equipment to your pool. This can be performed by a handyman, plumber, electrician, pool contractor or Do-It-Yourself (DIY).
If you are contemplating installation, read more here.
The simple, industry-wide, rule-of-thumb is that your salt system should be sized at 1.5 times your pool size, or more, for the temperate and colder parts of the US.
If you live in the southern sunbelt, then you should select a system with specs of at least 2 times your pool size.
Bear in mind that an undersized system will be a constant challenge, at best, while an oversized system will extend cell life and give you reserve capacity for weather events and periods of heavy use.

The flashing Check Cell light is an advisory warning that the salt cell may need cleaning.
The light is based on cumulative operating time and won’t stop flashing until it has been reset.
The light can be reset by pressing and holding in the System Status button - the black button to your left of the LCD display - for approximately 10 seconds.
This is an indication that the temperature sensor has failed.
Repairing this problem takes two steps, the first is to follow the instructions to move the temperature jumper inside the control module to a different setting.
This will allow the unit to begin operating right away, however, there is a second step which will complete the repair.
Contact Technical Support at (866) 766-5243 in order to apply any remaining warranty and obtain a Temperature/Flow Switch.
Once you have installed the new flow switch per the same instructions, the repair will be complete.
Your CircuPool Universal series salt chlorinator operates under a “duty cycle” by which partial output is achieved by periods of 100% output and periods of standby operation to achieve the partial output.
Temporarily turn the unit up to 100% and after several minutes of operation, check for amperage and instantaneous salinity readings before turning it back to the original setting.
If you still had 0 amps and no salinity reading, then call our Technical Support team at (866) 766-5243 for further assistance.

The CircuPool Universal55 controls feature a steel sheet-metal box with hinged and latching door, similar to the panel on a circuit breaker. Thanks to the keyholes on the control box, it’s easily mounted to a nearby wall, post, or support with the help of a few basic screws secured to the wall or other support.
Inside the Control Center door, there’s a small LCD screen that displays average salinity readings, temperature, cell voltage, cell current, your chosen chlorine output percentage, instantaneous salinity, and different cell type settings.
These controls have a dial that can be used to raise or lower the chlorine output, and a three-position switch to activate or deactivate the system, or activate the super chlorination mode.
The electrolytic cell for the Universal55 is housed in opaque-plastic and contains built-in titanium electrode plates and a built-in power supply cord.
The housing also features matching threaded connections on the inlet and outlet which fit the Hayward Aqua Rite for easy, direct conversion and quick access for maintenance, cleaning, or seasonal removal.
These threaded connections attach to 2” and 1.5” unions, which can be glued to the existing PVC return-line plumbing.
The CircuPool Universal55 includes two 2" Threaded Unions, two 1.5" Threaded Unions, Flow Switch, 1.5" Flow Switch adapters, and Instruction Manual.
