Set the flow your pool needs. SmartFlo AF pumps automatically adjust motor speed to maintain it. Smarter circulation. Zero RPM guesswork.
It's possible that many pools with variable-speed pumps are not set right - getting insufficient flow, or worse, potentially wasting energy instead of saving it! SmartFlo Adaptive Flow™ changes that.
Instead of programming speeds, you program the flow your pool actually needs. SmartFlo monitors system performance and automatically adjusts motor speed to maintain your selected flow rate - even when conditions change (for example, as your filter gets dirty).
Bottom line: you set the target flow—the pump does the optimizing automatically to achieve your goal.
SmartFlo Adaptive Flow™ Pumps are the next generation of variable speed pool pumps. Get achievable energy savings* of up to 85% (up $850 - $1800 annually) thanks to the combination of its industry-leading flow control technology and its energy efficient variable frequency drive / inverter-controlled, totally-enclosed fan-cooled motor design. Its high performance, customizable operation, and heavy-duty construction make it a perfect fit for virtually any type of pool. Works great with salt chlorinators, heat pumps, and other flow-dependent pool equipment!

*Energy savings depend on pool configuration and operating conditions.
*Savings based on Energy Star savings calculator with 220THP variable-speed pump compared to a 1.5HP single-speed pump running US average run times and energy costs on a 20,000 gallon pool as of 2026. Individual Weighted Energy Factor (WEF) scores and savings may vary by model. Actual savings may vary based on local utility rates, pool size, pump run time, pump horsepower, pump RPM, plumbing size and length, pump model, service factor and/or other local or hydraulic factors.

Pump sizing can be complex and factor in a number of variables. On new construction, the pool builder is in a position to advise you on your requirements. If you are replacing pumps, then you should have a sense of how well the original size performs on your pool and choose accordingly. There are a number of common rules-of-thumb suggesting you simply run your pump 8-10 hours per day or that you operate it 1 hour for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit. However, It’s generally recommended that a residential pool should “turnover” its water 1-2 times per day. By that, it means your pump should circulate 15-30,000 gallons per day for a 15,000 gallon pool. Looking at this another way, if your pump flows 50 gallons per minute, then it should take 300 minutes (5 hours) for a single turnover. Consequently, this pool should circulate water for up to 10 hours per day and more if it receives heavy use. Adjusting these calculations to fit your specific situation will provide you with the optimal runtime.
Absolutely. Your old single speed pump is one of the worst power hogs you own. A new Variable Speed Pump (VSP) can save you up to 85% in energy costs. In addition to the programmability and very low noise level, you can anticipate a rapid payoff of the new pump in energy savings, depending on the length of your pool season.

Features
Typical pump sizing would be for pools ranging from: 15,000 - 60,000 gallons. Designed for elevated hydraulic loads. Maintains maximum flow in feature-rich and high-head systems.
Please consult a professional to ensure proper pump sizing. A pump's capacity should ensure 1-2 circulation "turnovers" of the water in the pool through the filter each day, with one turnover typically achieved within 8 hours. Pools with water features & pressure-dependent equipment may require greater pump capacity. Properly sized variable-speed pumps typically have more total horsepower than the corresponding single-speed pump.
